Antiquing
We decided to try to find some old CCP Kazakhstan memorabilia while we're here to bring home. We didn't get anything 'big' last time so why not. Our driver brought us to an 'antique expert' who had several salons which varied in degree of cost. We started at the middle, then he showed us the really expensive stuff, back to the middle and finally the more affordable selection. In the middle when I'd try to ask a price I never got an answer. Guess he thought we couldn't afford it.
In the lower end 'salon' as they're called they had tapestries, flags, paintings, medals, jewelry etc. They had a great flag with Lenin on it but it was 25,000.00 - maybe not. Ended up buying a small oriental rug from the 19th century (but who knows), 2 flags (one a children's propaganda with Lenin as a child and the rules to follow and the other a small Kazakh CCP one), and two medals. Set us back a little but they're fun and interesting. We hit one more store and then went to lunch at Venezia for pizza for the guys. Then home. Didn't take any pictures but plan to today as we're going to Gorky Park and the zoo for Serik.
